Period 3: Read The Things They Carried to the end of p. 30 *end of chapter, "Love". Annotate to comprehend or notice. Be prepared to discuss the link between what you have read and the Big Think transcript of the interview with Tim O'Brien. You can watch the video to refresh your memory: BIG THINK VIDEO. Entrance ticket tomorrow.

Period 4: Watch the Big Think video interview with Tim O'Brien, "War Stories Are Also Love Stories". Follow along and annotate the transcript. Make sure you understand the MAIN IDEA (who + what) of the video. Entrance ticket tomorrow.

Independent Reading Book

Please begin reading a grade-appropriate independent book. You will be getting the independent reading response choice board (printed) next week, plus a rubric for the reading response project, which will be due at the end of each month. Performance Series Testing - Reading - Wed/Thurs

Wed/Thurs- please bring independent reading book in case you finish the test early.
Friday - we will complete reading "Is Survival Selfish?" using annotation situations set #1 and respond to the reading via exit slip.
Monday - THE THINGS THEY CARRIED DUE. This will be graded as supplies. Please put your name on the spine of the book.

Continue to bring in classroom supplies - tissues, hand sanitizer, loose leaf paper, highlighters, markers, post-its.

Supplies Due Monday

Please bring the following supplies to class on Monday, Sept. 11:

  1. Composition notebook
  2. Blue and black pens
  3. Highlighter
  4. Loose leaf paper


Please bring these supplies for classroom use (we use these daily and run out quickly)

  1. Loose leaf paper (one pack minimum)
  2. Large, lined index cards (one pack minimum)
  3. Post-it-Notes
  4. Crayola markers
  5. Tissues
  6. Hand sanitizer
